Crime Alert

To All Northeast Lakewood Associated Neighborhoods Members:

Just received word that one of our neighbors, Dave & Jan Allmendinger, 7 Oak Tree Circle, today experienced a break-in of their home while they were gone during the day. Access was gained by kicking in their front door. A computer and jewelry are missing, and it appears the thief or thieves moved quickly through the home in executing a crime of opportunity!

This is the second reported theft that has taken place on Oak Tree Circle; the first one took place approximately three weeks ago. Therefore we know thieves have met with success at least twice in this neighborhood, and they may have decided it is worth it to come back again!

We can only suggest that you follow the old Boy Scout Motto of "Be Prepared"! Please refer to the NLR Police Crime Alert that we posted both on the NLAN Blog and via e-mail on February 27th. This alert contained many helpful prevention tips that we all need to keep in focus! We are not home at all times and thus the criminal element is aware of the opportunities to hit hard and quick. We must depend on our neighbors to try and watch for suspicious activity, and we must depend on our own home security systems, too! And by all means, if you have one make sure that it is turned on every time you vacate your home!

Once again, the NLR Police want you to call them whenever you question what you are observing, be it strangers on foot going door to door, or unknown vehicles slowly driving down the street, sometimes over and over (casing the joint).

Be alert! Be aware! Get to know your neighbors! Consider Investing in home security! And by all means - please be safe!

Well I guess the thieves know what they want, small & valuable.
I'm guessing the computer was a laptop?
It could contain credit card numbers, bank info & maybe other valuable info for ID theft.
If you shop online your credit card info could be in your internet browser also in the computers page file.
Look online for ways to lock down your computer data (maybe encrypt it)so that if someone gets your computer they don't get personal info

Thanks, I hadn't thought of that. Think I'll lock my laptop up.

Could we have someone in the neighborhood doing this? Seems interesting that they know exactly what time someone is out. Are the cruising our neighborhood all day? I've seen people in the neighborhood who don't seem to belong. I'll keep a watch because I'm home during the day.

Myra, way to go! Your example is our first line of defense when it comes to fighting neighborhood crime. We are blessed that many retired as well as other daytime stay-at-homers are located on our neighborhood streets - ever so watching!

Perhaps our motto from an old song should be: "Getting to know you - getting to know all about you". This is what it takes to be the most effective! Do we know our neighbors well enough to have knowlege of their life patterns such as when they normally come and go on a daily basis? Do we know which vehicles of their's should be parked in their driveway or in front of their house? When they leave on a trip do they tell you when they should be returning? Do they tell you of any unknown vehicles that may be checking upon their house or grounds while they are away? Do they provide you with a phone number to be immediately called in case you have a security question on their behalf? This level of interaction can only be obtained from a relationship based on mutual trust and care! So let us all keep those song words in focus at all times. They provide the means for a very strong home defense for every one of us!
