Association meeting on November 16

Our next next neighborhood association meeting will be on November 16. We changed the date of the meeting because neither of our aldermen could attend on November 2. I will send additional information in advance of the November 16 meeting.

Electronic changeable copy signs

We have arranged for a special meeting with our aldermen, Murry Withcher and Charlie Hight to discuss how we can best prohibit electronic changeable copy signs in our neighborhoods. The meeting will be October 20, 6:30 PM, at the Lakewood Property Owners Association office building.

The aldermen and alderwomen on City Council are currently working on an ordinance to regulate electronic changeable copy signs. A proposal, currently being considered, will allow this type on sign in residential areas. This can adversely affect the appearance of our neighborhoods and also be a nuisance. We must speak out now, while they are working on this ordinance.

Electronic Sign Committee meeting

Wednesday October 7th at 6:00pm in the NLR City Council Chambers. The meeting will be open to the public for all interested citizens, sign company representatives and NLR business owners to join with the NLR Chamber of Commerce employees, City Attorney and Committee Aldermen to discuss this subject matter in an attempt to determine appropriate action steps towards reaching a workable solution.

2. Special Use # 681. To allow a daycare center in a C-2 zone. The request is located at 723 Beech Street.
3. Conditional Use # 55. To allow a daycare center in a C-3 zone. The request is located at 910 West 25th Street

Patriot Day (USA)

On the calendar, Friday, September 11, 2009, is labeled as "Patriot Day (USA)! On his day why not consider having an American Flag be displayed outside every NLANder home? On this eighth anniversary of one of our country's worst tragedies we should give honor with the display of our flag. We do this to honor those who lost their lives on 9/11; their families, loved ones and friends who continue to endure the pain. And we do this to honor those who today are fighting at home and overseas to preserve our cherished freedoms! Do you remember how you felt back on 9/11? Why not let those feelings guide your actions for this coming Friday, and for every day that follows! God Bless America!
